Hearts Opened, Champagne Flowed Amid Backdrop Of Amazing Cars At Charity Preview

It's regarded as the largest single night fundraiser in the world, and for the 13,069 people who attended the 2013 North American International Auto Show Charity Preview, it was a sign that this region can more than rise to the occasion when it comes to helping children.

NAIAS reported today that the 2013 Charity Preview, presented by Charter One / RBS Citizens, raised $3,920,700 for 9 children's charities during an evening of glitz, glamour, gorgeous gowns and, more than anything, confident smiles. The 2013 tally represents more than a 30 percent increase in funds raised over 2012 - the highest amount since 2008.

"I'm tired and my feet are sore, but I am thrilled that the people of Detroit and Southeast Michigan have once again opened their hearts for our kids," said Jim Seavitt, chairman, NAIAS 2013. "I have seen, from personal experience, the benefits that these funds provide, and I couldn't be prouder to be part of one of the greatest events which provides us the opportunity to do so much for so many."

Charities benefitting from the event include Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Boys and Girls Hope Detroit, Children's Center, The Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation, The Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) Charitable Foundation Fund, a fund of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, The Detroit Institute of Children, Judson Center, March of Dimes Metro Detroit, and Think Detroit PAL.

Funds raised by the Charity Preview go even further with the DADA Charitable Foundation Fund. Each year, charitable organizations from throughout the region submit proposals for grants from the DADA Charitable Fund to support worthy programs to improve and enhance the lives of children and youth. Approximately 10 grants typically ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 are awarded from the fund annually.

Charity Preview marks the close of Preview Week, which included Press Preview and Industry Preview. Press Preview saw 59 vehicle unveilings, 50 of which were global. The show is now open to the public through Sunday, Jan. 27.
