Woody Cain, host of “NASCAR Today,” was named Radio Producer of the Year. Dave Moody, turn announcer on MRN’s race broadcasts and host of “Sirius Speedway” on Sirius/XM NASCAR Radio, was named Broadcaster of the Year.
Motor Racing Network was recognized as the NMPA’s annual convention wrapped up in Concord, N.C. The network swept the top three spots in Topic-oriented Feature Radio with Cain earning first-place and third-place honors, and Darrell Smith capturing second place.
In addition to being named Radio Broadcaster of the Year, Moody won first place in the Spot News category for his work on Sirius/XM. In Event-oriented Feature Radio, he won first and third place, and teamed up with MRN producer Brian Nelson for second-place honors.
Motor Racing Network took second and third place for Live Event Broadcasts. MRN announcers Mike Bagley and Pete Pistone won third place in the Spot News category as hosts of the “Morning Drive” on Sirius/XM NASCAR Radio. And Jeff Wackerlin captured fifth place in Feature Writing for MotorRacingNetwork.com.
“These awards reflect the hard work and dedication of our broadcast team, and also demonstrate the presence we’ve established in the digital arena at MotorRacingNetwork.com,” said MRN President and Executive Producer David Hyatt. “We’re humbly grateful for this recognition and now look forward to our 44th year of NASCAR coverage in 2013.”
Motor Racing Network will launch this year’s NASCAR broadcast schedule with live coverage of the fourth annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday night, Feb. 8, followed by the season-opening Sprint Unlimited at Daytona special event on Feb. 16. But before Budweiser Speedweeks open, the network will provide live start-to-finish coverage of the Rolex 24 at Daytona GRAND-AM race beginning Saturday, Jan. 26, at 3 p.m. (EST).
