Sweet Safety Car To Lead Liqui-Moly 12 Hour Field

LIQUI-MOLY Bathurst 12 Hour competitors will be saying ‘sweet’ should the official Safety Car hit the circuit throughout the race – far from their usual reaction.

That’s because Australian-owned and iconic confectionary company Darrell Lea will sponsor the Nissan GTR, provided by VIP Petfoods Racing, throughout the February 8-10 event.

The striking Nissan was formally unveiled at a media event in Sydney last weekend and features a stunning multi-coloured livery that reflects the bright and vibrant nature of the resurgent brand – purchased by the Quinn family late last year.

Darrell Lea has been an iconic Australian brand since its formation in 1927 and is currently entering a new era of growth under the new management.

Amongst it’s most popular product lines, Darell Lea representatives handed out hundreds of Rocklea Road to passers by in Sydney last Friday. The brand will also attempt to set a new world record this Friday (February 25th) when they aim to unveil the world’s largest piece of Rocklea Road – at 200kg.

“It is exciting for us to be involved in such fantastic event like the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 hour,” said Darrell Lea Commercial Marketing Manager, Nicole Waters.

“To have our ironically Australian brand at the front of the field at the most iconic place in Australian Motorsport works really well, and we’ll be showing people that the Darrell Lea brand is back better and stronger than ever.

“The Nissan GTR looks sensational. I have heard stories from Bathurst’s past of drivers taking a snack with them in the car – perhaps this year when they are following the Darrell Lea Safety Car they can have a quick chew of our iconic Liquorice!”

Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour Event Director James O’Brien said the Safety Car was likely to create an impact when it appears on the Mountain.

“Safety Cars are a regular feature of endurance racing at Mount Panorama, Bathurst – it’s just this year the Safety Car will be brighter than usual!,” he said.

“The Darrel Lea Nissan GTR looks sensational and we are really pleased to see the support for the event from Tony Quinn, who is supplying his Nissan for the job, and the Darrel Lea team.”

Since its return in 2007, the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour has averaged just under 8 full-course yellow periods per year, peaking at 11 during the dramatic 2009 race.

Last year there were 9 Safety Car periods for a total of 22 laps – out of 270 completed by the winning Audi.

The Darrel Lea Nissan GTR Safety Car will be seen across the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour weekend on February 8-10, 2013.
