There are 33 days left before the Feb. 24, 2013 Daytona 500; hence, today’s number is:
33: The number of career victories recorded by Glenn “Fireball” Roberts in what is now the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The charismatic Roberts won seven points events at Daytona International Speedway, including one Daytona 500. In 1962, he beat Richard Petty by roughly half a lap for his only victory in the Great American Race. Two years later, Roberts’ career was cut short after sustaining injuries from an accident on May 24 at Charlotte. Roberts passed away on July 2, 1964.
