2013 Daytona 24: Spirit Of Daytona Racing News

The 2012 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season marked a breakthrough year for Spirit of Daytona Racing, and the Daytona Beach-based organization is looking forward to opening the 2013 Rolex Series campaign with a strong result in the 51st anniversary Rolex 24 At Daytona January 26-27.

Spirit of Daytona Racing will be boosted in that effort as the team has announced that VISIT FLORIDA has joined the team as the primary sponsor for the season-opening event. The No. 90 VISITFLORIDA.com Chevrolet Corvette DP will be driven by full-season pilots Ricky Taylor and Richard Westbrook, with Antonio Garcia and Oliver Gavin joining the squad for the 24 as the team looks to return to Daytona’s Victory Lane.

“I love Florida and am happy to be a part of getting that word out to the international audience this race attracts,” said Team Owner Troy Flis, who when he gets the opportunity, loves to head out to the water as an active fisherman. “The 24 is a highlight event for the state and for us to represent VISITFLORIDA.com is a big honor. We appreciate their support and there would be nothing better than to have a home team win this big Florida event carrying the VISIT FLORIDA colors!”

This year marks the 500th anniversary of Juan Ponce de Leon’s discovery of Florida in 1513 and the state is celebrating with a host of cultural-heritage events and activities to mark this historic occasion. VISIT FLORIDA, which serves as the state’s official source for travel planning, offers valuable travel planning resources to visitors on all there is to see and do in Florida through its award-winning website, VISITFLORIDA.com.

“We are very excited about this partnership with Spirit of Daytona Racing,” offered Will Seccombe, President and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA. “With 50 years of history, the Rolex 24 is a keystone event for Florida and brings international interest. We hope to use this partnership to highlight our Viva Florida 500 commemoration and to invite fans from around the world to come explore the Sunshine State this year.”

Spirit of Daytona Racing recently completed a successful test at the Roar Before the 24, and will make the short trip over to Daytona International Speedway ahead of the opening practice sessions for the 2013 Rolex 24 At Daytona on Thursday, January 24.
