FIA WRC Academy Champion To Compete For Innate Motorsport

To mark the first anniversary of their entry into the Australian Rally Championship, FIA WRC Academy Champion, Elfyn Evans will drive a second Ford Fiesta R2 for Innate Motorsport in the opening round of the Australian Rally Championship (ARC), the National Capital Rally to be held in Canberra from 1 – 3 March. The deal has been put together by RSPORT Motorsport, the Australian importer of the exciting Ford Fiesta R2.

Evans will compete in the event ahead of starting his 2013 World Rally Championship program, the prize he won for taking the WRC Academy title last year. Evans will be looking for a competitive run in the Fiesta R2 in the notoriously difficult Canberra based event.

“When I was approached to do the event I jumped at it. I want to be a professional rally driver, so an opportunity to gain international experience like this is very valuable. My employer, M-Sport, thought it was a good idea for my development and a break from our winter is an added bonus but I am taking the event seriously as the team is looking for a result for all the work that goes into putting a deal like this together. I have heard the roads are tricky and knowing when to push and when to ease off a bit is important and that I can expect temperatures in the mid-thirties, so it isn’t going to be a holiday” Evans said.

Adrian Coppin from Innate Motorsport said he was pleased to have Evans in the team. “The opportunity to run Elfyn cements our place as a serious part of the Australian rally community. I met him when I was in the UK last year and had a ride with him. He has the speed to be a serious contender in Canberra.” Coppin said.

A spokesman for RSPORT Motorsport said, “We want to showcase the capabilities of the Ford Fiesta R2 and Evans should be able to do that. The rally has traditionally been a challenging event held in the spiritual home of special stage rallying in Australia. International drivers have competed here in the past so it seemed fitting to invite Elfyn to compete here and I couldn’t think of a better event to show what the Fiesta R2 can do. He has plenty of experience in the car and there is no doubting his obvious talent. It will be interesting to see where he finishes. I am sure the television audience on Channel 10 and One and the spectators will be impressed by his speed and the Fiesta R2’s capabilities.”
