Bay Area Weather: “You never know what you’re going to get with the weather in Oakland. If it rains, I tend to get more relaxed on the bike. It’s more fun. I normally run well in rainy conditions. Growing up back east, I’m use to the rainy and rutty conditions that we may see Saturday in Oakland. I’m use to riding in the rain and mud and that may be a key for the race.”
Tires: “If we get rain, picking the correct tire compound will be a key. If it rains, you’ll see an outdoor tire selection and you have to be ready for the change in tires. We did some tire testing with Dunlop this week with the tire they brought out last November. It’s a great combo, both front and rear. I like the new pattern. I rode with it on Wednesday and really like it on the dryer conditions we practiced on. Either wet or dry, I think we’re on top of things.”
Starts, Starts, Starts: “I’ve talked about it for three weeks now and you have to get a great start in the Main to have any chance at winning. There are just too many fast riders who can break away from the pack and set a pace that you’ll never be able to run if you’re caught up in slower riders. I feel like I’m strong from midpoint of the race; I just need to be stronger when the gate drops and get into a fast rhythm for 20 laps.”
