2013 Daytona Rolex 24: Grand Am Final Race Results - After 24 Hours

By Mike Sulka

In front of 50,000, Juan Pablo Montoya and his No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates - BMW Riley brought home a triumph in the 2013 Grand-Am opener - the 51st Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. For Ganassi Racing, it is the team's fifth victory in the 24 hour event, and fifth in the last eight years.

For Scott Pruett (52-years old), it is his fifth Daytona Rolex 24 victory (1994, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2013), and ties him for the all-time lead with Hurley Haywood. Juan Pablo Montoya added his third Rolex 24 victory, and moves into a 4-way tie for 7th on the all-time victories list.

The BMW powered entry has been so dominant over the Corvette power plants that there has been some complaints from the bow-tie boys, but while resigned to today's outcome, they expect the situation to be resolved for the next event. Yet, there were 74 lead changes during the 24 race.

Finishing second, Max Angelelli and his No. 10 VelocityWW - Corvette DP followed by AJ Allmendinger and his No. 60 Michael Shank Racing - Ford Riley. Joao Barbosa and his No. 9 Action Express Racing - Corvette DP was the final car to finish on the lead lap.

The race started at on Saturday at 3:30 PM Eastern standard time, and continued until Sunday at 3:30 PM EST. Overall, 709 laps were completed around the 3.560-mile road course circuit. The all-time record is 762 laps (1992). There were 17 cautions for 122 laps. 55 cars started the event, 33 were running at the finish.

The weather throughout the event was near perfect except for an extended period under caution this morning due to heavy fog.
