Beginning at 8 p.m. CT, "Dallas" will kick off its second season on TNT with back-to-back episodes - "Battle Lines" and "Venomous Creatures" - and the season premiere will have some NASCAR flavor. Texas Motor Speedway is the backdrop for a scene where the Ewings are developing an alternative energy for the company and test it with a NASCAR stock car. In that scene, Gossage, playing himself, introduces Christopher Ewing (played by Jesse Metcalfe) to Rudd, who is asked to shake down the car.
Originally, Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Chairman Bruton Smith was scheduled for the cameo, but the scheduling did not work out and Gossage stepped in to handle the role.
"You will see tonight the result of the endless hours I put in between special acting classes and rehearsals to nail my character portrayal of a complex, colorful, boyishly handsome genius," Gossage kidded. "This could be Emmy worthy for best supporting actor."
Gossage and Texas Motor Speedway landed on "Dallas" after he went to a premiere last year in Dallas and met one of the show's executive producers, Ken Topolsky. Topolsky called Gossage last summer and asked if he would be interested in the show filming an episode with a storyline that involved racing at Texas Motor Speedway. Gossage jumped at the opportunity and the scenes were born through a one-day shoot in mid-November followed by a more extensive three-day shoot in early December with the full cast and crew.
"It is quite an honor to have Texas Motor Speedway be a part of such an iconic show as 'Dallas,' especially a season premiere episode," Gossage said. "From what I'm told, we also may be part of a future episode this season as well. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product."
