FIA ERC: Latvia Rally (February 1-3, 2013)

Two of the Peugeot Rally Academy’s three recruits for the coming season are poised to make their 2013 debuts on the snow and ice of this weekend’s Latvia Rally, round two of this year’s FIA European Rally Championship. Ireland’s Craig Breen will drive a 207 Super 2000, while his French colleague Stéphane Lefebvre will be in a 208 R2.

Craig Breen: targeting a podium finish to celebrate his 23rd birthday!

After recently completing a test session at the wheel of the 208 Type R5, Craig will contest his first rally of the year in a 207 Super 2000, a car he knows particularly well. The Latvia Rally is one of the eight events which figure on his calendar with Peugeot Sport. “I have always dreamed of becoming a works driver, ” says Craig. “I don’t feel under any particular pressure ahead of this weekend’s rally. I will simply do my best and try to finish on the podium. I’ve competed on snow twice before and I thoroughly enjoy it. I can’t wait!”

Craig Breen’s co-driver will be David Moynihan. The two youngsters have known each other for some years, and David competed alongside Craig at the beginning of his career. They used the recent test with the 208 Type R5 to find their marks once again and are targeting on Saturday, February 2, to celebrate Craig’s 23rd birthday in style!

François Delecour and Dominique Savignoni, 2012 Romania’s champions, will also race with their 207 Super 2000.

Stéphane Lefebvre’s first taste of snow

Stéphane Lefebvre is the winner of the ‘Junior’ class of last year’s ‘Volant 207’ series. He will take part in four rounds of the ERC in the new 208 R2 which has proved incredibly successful since its launch, with sales already totalling 71 cars.

Stéphane, who will soon turn 20, will be competing on snow for the very first time. “I don’t feel anxious, ” he says. “I’m just looking forward to trying something new, but I presume it must be a bit like rallying on gravel. It will be nice to see how I compare with the R2 class’s top drivers and I hope to be able to get closer to their times towards the end of the rally. I did some endurance runs in the 208 R2 during its development, so I know it quite well.” Stéphane’s co-driver will be Thomas Dubois and the pair’s car, like that of Craig, will compete in the colours of the Peugeot Rally Academy and be run by Saintéloc. Both drivers took part in a test session before the rally.
