Gunnar Jeannette Joins Growing Roster Of Top Drivers At Ram Racing

Ram Racing, the new British GT team entering two Ferrari 458 Italia GTE cars into the European Le Mans Series, has added another top sports car name to its growing roster of drivers for the 2013 season. North America’s Gunnar Jeannette, who competed with the Dan Shufflebottom-led team in January’s Dubai 24H, joins Johnny Mowlem and Matt Griffin for an assault on the 5-round series which begins on April 13 at Britain’s leading circuit, Silverstone.

Thirty-year-old Jeannette is a driver of ever-increasing stature and repute in international sports car racing, and is a popular inclusion into Ram Racing’s driver line up. It has not yet been announced who the Salt Lake City, Utah resident will be driving with.

Dan Shufflebottom said he had no hesitation in signing up the American: “Gunnar was a fairly late inclusion into our line up at Dubai due to another driver’s injury, but he fitted in straight way. He hadn’t met any of the team before, apart from his engineer Mark Schomann, Johnny and Guy [Smith], but within half an hour it felt like he’d always belonged. On top of the fact that he’s very easy-going and has worked with bronze-rated drivers before, something he’s going to be doing again. He now has experience of the F458 and his performance in Dubai was very pleasing in every aspect, on and off the track.”

Gunnar is the youngest man ever to finish the 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving a Porsche GT car on his debut in the 2000 edition of the French classic, and has raced both in the USA and Europe for the factory Panoz effort and Ford Racing’s sportscar programme. He was also a key member of the pioneering Nissan DeltaWing’s attack on the 2012 Petit Le Mans, crossing the finish line in 5th place overall.

He said of his new team: “I'm honoured to get to be a part of what I consider a world class team. Dan has put together a great group of guys with a mix of single seater and sportscar experience and I'm very confident that our programme with RAM in the ELMS is going to make a big impression in sportscar racing. I can't wait to get started. I've done lots of races in Europe in several series over the years, but have never campaigned a full championship so the opportunity to go for my first European Championship in what is shaping up to be a very competitive class is very attractive.”
