David Calvert-Jones And Alex And James Davison Roll Off From Class B Pole At Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour

United States-based Competition Motorsports, and its trio of Australian drivers David "CJ" Calvert-Jones and cousins Alex and James Davison, rolled off from the Class B pole position in today’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour in the team’s No. 12 Porsche 911 GT3.

The "Ultimate Aussie Endurance Race" is being run on the 3.861-mile (6.213-km) Mount Panorama Circuit in the Australian city of Bathurst in New South Wales. The Competition Motorsports-prepared Porsche left its Tujunga, California race shop in the Los Angeles area over a month ago for Australia and is competing in the Class B with support from McElrea Racing, a top Australian Porsche outfit. Competition Motorsports owner Bob Faieta is working alongside the experienced McElrea Racing group as team manager at Bathurst.

Calvert-Jones, who goes by "CJ," is a native of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia but moved to Los Angeles nearly a decade ago to become a helicopter film and stunt pilot. He finished second in the 2012 IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama Gold Cup championship, scoring his first victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in July. He made his American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón debut in the 2012 season-ending Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta driving the No. 24 Norton by Symantec Porsche GT3 in the GTC class.

Alex Davison is from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, and has an accomplished career record racing Porsches in both his home country and overseas. He won the 2004 Australian Porsche Carrera Cup championship and finished second in the same series in 2006 and 2007. Last year he finished third in the Australian Porsche Carrera Cup driving for McElrea with a win in the season-opening round in Sydney. Davison also has experience in Australian V8 Supercars and has raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the American Le Mans Series. He is also a driver for Ford Performance Racing customer team Charlie Schwerkolt Racing in the 2013 V8 Supercar series.

Also born in Melbourne, James Davison has done the majority of his racing in North America. Runner-up results in both the Star Mazda and Indy Lights championships led him to a successful maiden IndyCar test with Andretti Autosport. Davison has also made several starts in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series since 2010 in both the Daytona Prototype and GT divisions.

The Davison cousins are grandsons of four-time Australian Grand Prix winner Lex Davison. Alex's father, Richard Davison, was an Australia Formula 2 champion, while James' father, Jon Davison, raced and won in Formula 5000.

New partners for the Competition Motorsports effort include UMS (Urban Maintenance Systems) and Ultum. Blundstone Boots, Footwear & Accessories, Gibson Freight, Australian Sports Marketing and Bill Rader Motorsports will also provide support for the Bathurst 12 Hour effort.
