12: The number of second-place finishes posted by James Hylton in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series before Hylton got his first victory. From the start of his career at NASCAR’s highest level, it took Hylton six years and 187 starts to notch his first win, which came Mar. 1, 1970, in the Richmond 500 at what is now Richmond International Raceway. Hylton and race runner-up Richard Petty were the only two drivers on the lead lap at the finish. By then, Hylton already had finished second in the series standings twice, in 1966 and 1967, losing the title to David Pearson and Petty, respectively.
