2013 Daytona 500 (Duel): NASCAR Sprint Cup Starting Line-Up & Race Preview
By PaddockTalk.com Staff Writers
The NASCAR Sprint Cup series returns to action as drivers and teams will be jousting for position - and dreams - at the Budweiser Duel with a pair of 60-lap, 150-mile races. Overall, 43 drivers will have their fate decided by the outcome of Thursday's events, only 41 more will make the Super Bowl of NASCAR Sprint Cup racing... the Daytona 500 at Daytona Beach, Florida.
Given all of the practice accidents, and the tumbles during the Bud Shootout, it could be more a case of last car standing on the 2.5-mile high-banked tri-oval.
So here's the deal, the front row of Danica Patrick and Jeff Gordon is locked in. The top 15 finishers of each duel will fill positions 3-32. From position 33-36, the four fastest cars that haven't already been included will be added.
Then we get to the provisionals, from 37-42. Those starting positions will go to the six cars highest in 2012 owners points that still haven't qualified.
Lucky 43, will go to any car owner who has the most recent eligible past NASCAR Sprint Cup champion who did not make the field.
LIVE TV coverage begins on SPEED at 2 p.m. ET.
