2013 Daytona: NASCAR Nationwide Starting Line-Up & Race Preview

By Mike Sulka

Since 1982 the NASCAR Nationwide Series has been racing at the historic 2.5-mile tri-oval at Daytona International Speedway. Over the past 35 races, Chevrolet has absolutely dominated the competition with 28 race victories which includes 16 of the past 20 contests.

With Chevy power under the hood, Dale Earnhardt Jr. found victory lane five times through the 2000’s, and he added another triumph in 2010. Today, he'll start 13th.

Although Earnhardt Jr. and Busch are huge names in NASCAR racing, is it possible that a bigger name is rising to the top... former IndyCar driver Danica Patrick.

After grabbing the Pole for the 2013 Daytona 500, there is no question she’ll have an enormous following for the DRIVE4COPD 300. But can she win ?

We doubt it. Because to do so she'll have to unseat 3-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart from his throne. Did you know Tony Stewart has won six of the last eight January NASCAR Nationwide races at Daytona ?

That makes the pick today easy.... Tony Stewart.

Should Tony Stewart fail, check out Dale Earnhardt Jr. or Kyle Busch to bring home the glory.

As always, Daytona is always a wild race to begin the season with extremely close, side-by-side pack racing and finishes that are too close to call.

Expect much of the same today.

So enjoy the NASCAR Nationwide season opener.
