2013 NHRA: Consistency Is Name Of The Game For Pro Stock Veteran Stanfield
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it." It's an old saying in racing that served as a motto for Pro Stock driver Greg Stanfield and the MAVTV/Lucas Oil Chevy Camaro team while qualifying for the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird International Raceway.

"The car was really good last week in Pomona," Stanfield said. "We haven't been changing a whole lot. We've been looking over small things but just trying to keep it running the same as last weekend."
Stanfield's best qualifying pass, a 6.561 at 210.73 mph, was good for the No. 9 spot in Sunday's eliminations field.
"We were hoping to do better in the last qualifying run," Stanfield said. "We just missed it a little bit. We'll be ready for tomorrow.
"We were just a little too aggressive this morning and a little soft in the afternoon, so we're going to try to find the sweet spot in the middle. We'll regroup, get ready, and see if we can outrun that kid."
"That kid" Stanfield is referring to is Vincent Nobile, who won last week's season opener and qualified for the Phoenix event in the No. 8 spot with a 6.555 best at 211.13 mph.
"It should be a tight race," Stanfield said. "It'll probably be one of those races where whoever gets off the line first will win. We'll probably be the first pair out in Pro Stock, which is always a tricky situation. We just need to race smart and turn the win light on."
Stanfield has also been really happy with the way the MAVTV Camaro is leaving the starting line. He just needs to find a little more horsepower for the top end.
"The transition (from concrete to asphalt) got us a little," Stanfield said. "But I'm happy all in all."
The NHRA Arizona Nationals will get under way at 11 a.m. PST on Sunday morning. ESPN2 will air the eliminations show Sunday night starting at 8 p.m. EST.
