2013 Daytona: Brennan Newberry NASCAR Truck Race Recap
NTS Motorsports Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Brennan Newberry made a splash in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) season opener at Daytona International Speedway. Making his 11th start, Newberry won his first NCWTS pole position at the historic venue. Led by veteran crew chief Eddie Pardue, the young driver impressed with his control in the draft and his ability to work with other drivers.

Winning the Keystone Pole Award was a phenomenal accomplishment for the rookie driver. As Newberry waited to go out 35th in qualifying, he gained confidence watching four-time champion teammate Ron Hornaday qualify in the top three. When he came off of turn four for his first lap, Newberry went to the top of the qualifying speed charts. His final lap was even quicker, solidifying his first career pole award at Daytona.
Newberry made a great start and was able to race consistently in the top five. With help from spotter Rick Carelli, Newberry was able to work with the other drivers to stay in contention for a strong finish at his first Superspeedway NCWTS race. A quick pit stop by NTS Motorsports allowed the No. 14 Fight for Life Chevrolet Silverado to gain three positions and exit the pits in second. Starting on the outside, Newberry shuffled to tenth and began methodically maneuvering his way back into the top five. An accident on lap-55 ended Newberry's promising day in the 33rd-position.
Johnny Sauter captured his seventh career NCWTS victory, followed by Kyle Busch, Ron Hornaday, Justin Lofton and Jeb Burton.
Newberry's teammate, Ron Hornaday started from fourth and finished an impressive third in his No. 9 Smokey Mountain Herbal Snuff Chevrolet Silverado.
Brennan Newberry Quote:
"Winning the Keystone Pole Award at Daytona International Speedway has been the highlight of my young career. Having both NTS Motorsports trucks qualify in the top-five and run as well as they did in the race, is a testament to the quality staff we have at NTS. Working with Eddie Pardue has given me an incredible amount of confidence and being able to learn from my teammate Ron Hornaday is invaluable for a rookie driver. The unfortunate accident was something out of our team's control and it will not define our season. I am more energized and motivated than ever for this season to continue. The goal is the same: win the Sunoco Rookie of the Year Championship."
