2013 Daytona 500: LIVE NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Update - Halfway! Kenseth Leads! Danica Third!
By PaddockTalk.com Staff Writers
We are halfway - lap 100 - at the 2013 Daytona 500 - the NASCAR Sprint Cup season opener - at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach Florida. Currently, Matt Kenseth and his No. 20 Dollar General Toyota are leading the event with a total of 42 different laps. Kenseth has won two of the last four Daytona 500s.
Another Joe Gibbs Racing entry driven by Denny Hamlin is running second, having led 10 laps.
Danica Patrick is currently third. Patrick and her No. 10 godaddy entry has also been credited with leading a lap early in the race on NASCAR timing and scoring. Interestingly though, FOX didn't call the event until lap 91. The apparent distinction they were making was that Patrick's first lap led was under caution rather than under green. NASCAR doesn't make such a distinction, instead providing bonus points for laps led regardless of when they happen.
Patrick gave up her lead after leading one more lap. Overall, 9 male drivers have led laps during the event, without the fanfare.
Thus far, the race has had three caution periods - two for debris - and one for and accident that took out race favorites Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick.
Enjoy!
