Goodyear won in six total categories, the best showing among tiremakers at the event.
Jack DeRencin, Chuck Hawk and Harry Doolittle were the first time winners. DeRencin, Hawk and Doolittle all raced in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for sportsman racers.
Tony Schumacher, Ron Capps and Erica Enders-Stevens won on Goodyear tires in the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series for professional teams and the close competition between the pros highlighted Goodyear’s manufacturing consistency.
DeRencin won his first-ever National event Wally in his first National final round appearance to claim the Super Comp victory. The trophy awarded each NHRA winner is a small statue that honors NHRA founder Wally Park and is known as a Wally by racers and fans alike.
Chuck Hawk also took home his first Wally from a National final with the win in Top Dragster.
Harry Doolittle won his first National when he took the trophy in Super Stock.
Schumacher beat Morgan Lucas in the Top Fuel final, the 70th victory of Schumacher’s career. The official margin of victory was .0385 of a second. Tracksiders estimated the difference to be about 15 feet.
Capps beat teammate Matt Hagan by a comparatively comfortable .0818 of a second in Funny Car, or about six feet.
Enders-Stevens beat Mike Edwards to win in Pro Stock. Her margin of victory was .0353 of a second, about 11 feet.
Goodyear employs about 69,000 people at manufacturing plants and facilities in 22 nations. Based in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear is among the largest tiremakers in the world and is the worldwide leader in race tire innovation.
