NASCAR Number (Feb. 27, 2013)
By Reid Spencer, NASCAR Wire Service
1,000,000: The number of dollars in Bruton’s Big Bonus. Speedway Motorsports chairman Bruton Smith is offering a $1-million bonus to any driver who can lead all five segments of the May 18 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. That incentive, as well as using a driver’s average finish in the first four segments to determine the running order onto pit road before the final 10-lap shootout, should help to correct a glitch in last year’s format. In the 2012 race, drivers could win a segment and then run at the back of the field, knowing their top-four position into the pits before the final segment (awarded to the four segment winners) was secure. As was the case last year, the 90-lap NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race will be run in segments of 20, 20, 20, 20, and 10 laps.
