After securing pole position yesterday Percat was jumped by Baird off the line and into the Senna Chicane. From there Baird held the lead with Percat close behind.
Driving the Coates Hire Racing entry, Percat was content to sit behind Baird to claim second place in his debut Carrera Cup race.
Passing proved difficult for the rest of the field, with the finishing order sorted by the first corner. Steve Richards leapt from fourth to beat Warren Luff into the the chicane, and the pair remained in that order for the duration.
Shae Davies and Karl Reindler held their positions to take fifth and sixth, while Steve Johnson dropped from seventh to eighth – passed by Matt Kingsley.
James Koudnouris and Max Twigg rounded out the top 10.
The most serious incident of the race saw Team BRM’s Duvashen Padayachee take Marc Cini out at the hairpin, spearing into the side of the Cini’s car. Both cars retired from the race and caused a Safety Car which lasted many laps.
After the race Percat said: "Yesterday was a dream start in the Porsche Carrera Cup. Starting alongside Craig Baird the current champion, who is known worldwide as an excellent Porsche driver, was very satisfying. To out qualify him and then to race him today was very enjoyable.
"It was my first start in a Porsche so I was pretty conservative on the clutch as I didn't know what the car was going to do. Then I was happy to sit behind him, (Baird). The Coates Hire car had good pace and in the last half lap I caught Craig and finished just a car length behind him.
"It was a great start to the championship".
