Andretti Autosport, Pro Mazda Championship, Race 1 Report

Matthew Brabham, Team Andretti Autosport, No. 83

Brabham qualified his No. 83 machine in the second position for the first race of a double-header weekend at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas . After a hard fought race, Brabham recorded his first Pro Mazda podium with a third-place finish. He will start Race 2 from the third position tomorrow.

"It was a tough race. We got a good start and I was pressing for the lead early on and got pretty close. Towards the end of the race I lost the front tires a little bit and started dropping off a nd loosing a little bit of speed. I was struggling to hang on and the guy (Spencer Pigot) behind me caught me and made the pass.

"I'm pleased to be on the podium and we got good points for the championship, but disappointed because we were fast here at the test, all of the Andretti Autosport guys worked hard and we were looking for a win. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's race - sorting everything out and finding some more speed. So, overall pleased and disappointed at the same time."

Shelby Blackstock, Team Starstruck, No. 28

Blackstock started the first race of the Pro Mazda Championship weekend from ninth and finished in the same position.

"Today could have gone better for us. I messed up qualifying and over-drove the car and in the race I got caught up in the start crash and had to survive the rest of the race. I learned a lot though and hopefully the race tomorrow goes a lot better for us."
