The No. 10 Velocity Worldwide Corvette Dallara DP of Wayne Taylor Racing will start the inaugural GRAND-AM of The Americas Saturday from the outside of the front row after GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series qualifying Friday after at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas.

In his first career qualifying attempt for the team owned by his father, Jordan Taylor, the 21-year-old new full-time co-driver with Italian veteran Max “The Ax” Angelelli, turned a fast lap of 2 minutes, 0.239 seconds at 101.797 mph on the 3.4-mile, 20-turn Formula 1 circuit that is home to the United States Grand Prix. It was the second-best lap among 35 car-and-driver combinations that will take the green flag Saturday for the season’s first 2-hour, 45-minute sprint race.

“It’s not terrible, I’d say, for my first qualifying effort in the Velocity Worldwide Corvette,” said Taylor, who co-drove with Angelelli and reigning IZOD IndyCar Series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay. “I’m definitely disappointed. I don’t think I ever put it all together on that lap. It was a bit frustrating when it came to trying to get a gap and people slowing down and going fast and catching guys who are 12 seconds off the past. But a front-row start for Team Chevy, I guess you can’t complain too much. It’s a long race. There were definitely a couple of mistakes on my lap, but it’ll be an interesting race, especially with all the different aero packages going on out there – high downforce, low downforce, everything in-between at this track and that’ll really dictate the race. Qualifying is qualifying but you only score points for what you do in the race.”

The top-five in qualifying for the inaugural GRAND-AM of The Americas are:

1. Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing (No. 99 Corvette DP) with Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney (2:00.179 at 101.848 mph).

2. Wayne Taylor Racing (No. 10 Corvette DP) with Jordan Taylor and Max Angelelli (2:00.239 at 101.797 mph).

3. Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (No. 01 BMW Riley) with Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett (2:00.289 at 101.755).

4. Action Express Racing (No. 9 Corvette DP) with Burt Frisselle and Joao Barbosa (2:01.127 at 101.051 mph).

5. Spirit of Daytona Racing (No. 90 Corvette DP) with Ricky Taylor and Richard Westbrook (2:01.436 at 100.794 mph).

Race time Saturday is 4 p.m. EST with SPEED providing the delayed television broadcast beginning at 5:30 p.m. Live radio coverage will be provided by the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 90 beginning with pre-race festivities at 3:45 p.m.
