Craig Baird Keeps SLS AMG GT3 Win Streak Alive

Craig Baird has continued the good run for Erebus Motorsport GT in 2013 at the Clipsal 500, winning the Safety Car punctuated opening one hour Australian GT Championship, presented by Pirelli race on the streets of Adelaide.

Baird got the best of the start in his Erebus Motorsport SLS AMG GT3, leaping team-mate Christian Klien off the line. Klien dropped back to third behind Klark Quinn on the opening lap.

Whilst Baird worked to build an advantage at the front, the battle between Quinn and Klien was intensifying. He was suffering from some understeer, but was soon on the tail of Quinn.

Erebus Motorsport pitted Klien at the opening of the Compulsory Pitstop Window to get him some clear air.

With 25 minutes remaining, a Safety Car was triggered when an accident happened exiting turn one. Baird was pitted immediately, however this also led to the demise of Klien.

Baird was waved around the Safety Car which led him to having a full lap on the field. Klien was shuffled back to fifth in the kerfuffle.

The Austrian former Formula 1 pilot chased hard to try and advance into fourth in the dying stages of the race, but was unable to do so.

The first race win adds to Baird's pair of Carrera Cup wins so far this weekend.

The Australian GT Championship presented by Pirelli continues tomorrow with a single half hour race.

Craig Baird - #63 Erebus Motorsport SLS AMG GT3:

"It was a good race, the car has been good all weekend and I got a good start. I had to build some time for the pitstop, so I just put my head down to do that.

"It was a really good result, I was a little bit disappointed with qualifying so had to make amends.

"The SLS AMG GT3 has been prepared perfectly by the Erebus Motorsport team, which makes my job very easy."

CHRISTIAN KLIEN - #47 Erebus Motorsport SLS AMG GT3:

"I lost the first position to Craig, starting out on the outside is a definite disadvantage.

"There was plenty of understeer in the car compared to yesterday and I dropped behind the Porsche.

"Once comfortable with how the car was handling, I pushed hard and was being held up by Klark, so the team pitted me as soon as they could.

"When the Safety Car came out, it became a total mess. I don't know what happened but I feel as though Race Control didn't do me any favours.

"But tomorrow we'll start fifth and get into it, the car is fast, the pace is good and we hope to come home with a good result."
