Super-Drivers Spend Day With Super Heroes In Dunalley

V8 Supercars has today announced the Rotary Tasmania Bushfire Appeal as the charitable partner for the Tasmania 360, April 5 -7.

The Rotary Appeal was established after devastating bushfires swept through the Tasman Peninsula in January, destroying hundreds of buildings in the coastal town of Dunalley and surrounding areas.

Fresh from the series opening Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, V8 Supercar drivers Michael Caruso and Scott McLaughlin visited the fire ravished town and caught up with local fire fighters and other emergency service workers.

Nissan driver, Michael Caruso said visiting the burned town was a daunting experience.

"I could never imagine my entire life being destroyed by fire. These men and women are true heroes, putting their lives on the line to save their community," said Caruso.

The drivers also spent time with some families who lost everything when the out of control inferno engulfed their homes.

V8 Supercar rookie Scott McLaughlin was full of praise for the families.

"They are very brave, they have lost everything and the sad thing is they aren't the only family, an entire community was affected," said McLaughlin.

The Appeal was established by Rotary Tasmania to assist communities, small businesses and help families rebuild and recover from the devastating bushfires.

V8 Supercars General Manager of Events, Kurt Sakzewsk, said the partnership with the Rotary Tasmania Bushfire Appeal was significant.

"It is important that we help local communities where we travel and also help fellow Australians in their time of need," said Sakzewsk.

"V8 Supercars endeavours to help and support the appeal which is aiding the Dunalley community rebuild and repair."

V8 Supercars will return to Symmons Plains Raceway next month for the Tasmania 360 where the drivers will again battle it out over a weekend of high speed, action packed racing in round two of the 2013 Championship.

For the first time drivers will experience the new 60/60 sprint race format, ensuring greater high speed action for fans.
