FW Motorsport Impresses On First Wheels Down Test

Silverstone, Northamptonshire – Tuesday 5 March 2013; FW Motorsport completed a highly successful first team outing at Silverstone on Tuesday 5 March, with Team Principal and lead driver Fergus Walkinshaw setting an impressive pace in the team’s debut wheels down Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup test.

Ginetta’s official Media Day presented the ideal opportunity for the new Chipping Norton-based outfit to shakedown Walkinshaw’s 3.7 litre V6 Ginetta G55 following a complete rebuild since the end of last season.

The team’s tireless efforts over the winter break were justifiably rewarded, with the 370bhp powerhouse completing 75 laps of the Northamptonshire circuit without a single glitch.

Walkinshaw wasted no time in getting back in the groove, swiftly equalling his 2012 Silverstone qualifying form by the second session of the day, despite running on old rubber. Out on fresh tyres for the fourth and final 20-minute session, the 21 year-old owner/driver clocked in his best ever lap time around the 1.64 mile National circuit.

The foundation of FW Motorsport is part of Walkinshaw’s long-term plan to own, run and race in his own international sportscar team. With such solid pace and potential shown on the team’s first ever track outing, all eyes now turn to the opening event of the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup season at Brands Hatch, Kent, on 30-31 March.

Walkinshaw commented: “We’ve had a fantastic first outing for FW Motorsport at the official Ginetta Media Day today. We’ve created a completely new team for the 2013 season and it was great to have the crew together for the first time at Silverstone.

“We stripped down and rebuilt my Ginetta G55 from the ground up over the winter break and the car has run perfectly all day. Naturally, we weren’t really pushing it today, but we know there is a lot more to come from the team and the car.

“The guys have all put in an outstanding effort to get us here today and I’m really proud of what we have achieved so far. Here’s looking forward to FW Motorsport’s debut Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup season.”
