Wrapping Up The Off-Season
The wait is ALMOST over, folks! Less than a week from today and we will be back on track as our USF2000 program will head to its first two events at Sebring International Raceway. Just a week later, our Firestone Indy Lights squad will join the USF2000 guys in Florida as we all head to the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on the streets of downtown St. Pete. WHAT'S HAPPENING
• INDYCAR announced that all 12 of the Firestone Indy Lights races will be shown on NBC Sports Network with eight of those leading into the IZOD IndyCar Series' broadcast; the Firestone Freedom 100 will be LIVE from Indianapolis Motor Speedway at 12pm ET on May 24.
• Peter Dempsey debuted his new car number, as well as introduced his mechanics for the season in a few short videos posted to our Facebook page .
• 19-year-old Skip Barber notable Danilo Estrela became the third USF2000 driver for BAR's 2013 lineup and will drive the No. 11 machine. Estrela also recently traveled to Andersen RacePark in Palmetto, FL for INDYCAR's annual Mazda Road to Indy Media Day where the Brazilian won the karting race, crushing competition like IZOD IndyCar drivers Alex Tagliani and Justin Wilson.
• MAZDASPEED Scholarship winner Peter Portante joined the USF2000 program as our fourth and final driver for the 2013 season; the Plainville, CT native will pilot the No. 41 car, and can be heard discussing the Skip Barber Shootout that got him his MAZDA Scholarship drive on OpenPaddock.net.
• All four of our USF2000 drivers attended the Cooper Tires Winterfest Championship for some extra practice before the season begins and came away with one podium [Danilo Estrela], two top five finishes and eight top 10 finishes.
• It was revealed that Venezuelan Jorge Goncalvez would return to Belardi Auto Racing for his third year of Firestone Indy Lights, as well as third year with the team.
• Our Firestone Indy Lights program wrap up a two-day test at Sebring International Raceway today before they head to Barber Motorsports Park on Monday; their season commences March 24 as they participate in the Honda Grand Prix of St. Pete.
