NASCAR Number (Mar. 8, 2013)
By Reid Spencer
25: The starting spot Matt Kenseth occupied when he won the 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. That’s the deepest in the field an eventual winner of a Cup race at Vegas has ever started—but not by much. Jeff Gordon and Sterling Marlin started 24th in consecutive LVMS races in 2001 and 2002, respectively. All told, five of the 15 Cup races at Las Vegas have been won from starting positions of 20th or worse.
