Craig Stanton Aims For Sebring Victory With Old Friends At TRG

Craig Stanton probably logged more miles preparing for the 61st Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida than he will spend behind the wheel of the no. 66 TRG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. When he tells you he's ready for Sebring, he's not kidding.

Since January 1, Stanton has logged thousands of miles of cycling, running, and rowing seven days a week. So when he received the call to join TRG at Sebring for the ALMS Winter Test, he was ready. This year, he will join Ben Keating and Damien Faulkner for both Sebring and Petit Le Mans, with the Winter Test the first time he had worked with either driver.

Stanton has twice visited the podium at Sebring. In 2003, he finished second and in 2004, he finished third, both times driving with Petersen White Lightning. However, he rates his chances this year as his best yet for a chance to win yet at the legendary race.

"The GT-C class is such a competitive class," said Stanton. "Just look at the list of drivers in each car. It's going to be super-competitive. When we went down for the winter test we were fast right away and got faster in each session, so I'm feeling pretty good about our chances this year. Ben is one of the quickest, and most consistent, gentlemen drivers out there and that's really key for getting a good result. Damien is just incredibly talented. I'm lucky to get to share the car with them this weekend."

The Winter test was a homecoming of sorts for Stanton, who spent several seasons as part of TRG in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.

"TRG always has competitive equipment, and you can always count on them to be in the mix at the end of any race," said Stanton. "It's a great feeling to know that I have not only the best co-drivers, but the best team and crew in the field. Everything went just perfectly at the test so we know we are in great shape for the race. There will be a lot of good cars in contention at the finish, and we know we have a car to do win, we just have to stay out of trouble until the final two hours of the race."

Notes

Stanton, known within the paddock as the Fittest Man in Motorsports, recently launched Craig Stanton Coaching and Training. The program, an eight week fitness and nutrition program, is based on healthy eating and athletic training principals with long term success as its primary goal. Programs are individually tailored for each person's level of fitness and weight.

"I've been working out and training for so long, I've developed a certain way of doing things," said Stanton. "And I've been getting a lot of requests from other drivers, and guys I've coached, about how to be as prepared as possible for racing, so we've developed Need for Speed Program. The system is based on my nutrition and coaching philosophies, and is an online program that people can do from home. The response has been really great so far and I'm having a lot of fun working with a bunch of great students."
