Roberto La Rocca Drops GP3 For F3

Current US F2000 Champion Roberto La Rocca has made a surprise move from GP3 to F3 and will race in the European F3 Open series with Team West-Tec.

The move comes after an agreement to race with Atech Grand Prix in GP3 fell apart when the team was taken over by Bamboo Engineering.

“I raced in selected European F3 Open races towards the end of last year with Team West-Tec and they wanted me to race for them this year as we have a good chance of winning the Championship together,” said the 22-year-old.

“I was comfortable with Team West-Tec last year and we made some good progress, the problem was trying to fit the US race series in with the European F3 races - it was too demanding and with three clashing rounds with GP3 and F3 this year, we have decided not to try and do both.”

“I’m pleased now to have my plans confirmed and I am really looking forward to 2013 and working with Team West-Tec again. I am convinced we can do very well,” added the Accelerate Driver Development Ltd (ADD)-affiliated youngster.

Last season, Roberto was one of the young Venezuela supported drivers and he is hoping to have similar support this year.

Meanwhile, John Miller, Team Principal of Team West Tec, has offered Roberto the opportunity to spearhead his successful F3 team in an attempt to win the driver and team titles.

Roberto will begin pre-season testing at Barcelona in Spain this week [March 14th-15th] in preparation for the opening round, which takes place at Paul Ricard in France next month [April 27th-28th].
