HRH The Prince Of Wales Visits The Williams Technology Centre, Qatar
The Williams Technology Centre in Qatar Science and Technology Park today received a visit by HRH the Prince of Wales, who was given a tour of the facility to learn about its research programmes and the growing ties between Williams and the State of Qatar.

His Royal Highness is visiting Qatar with his wife The Duchess of Cornwall as part of a tour of Gulf countries aimed at celebrating the countries' close links with the UK and highlighting common interests in areas such as technology and enterprise, education, opportunities for women and environmental sustainability. The Williams Technology Centre, Qatar (WTCQ) was chosen as an ideal location to visit because of its close engagement and joint research projects with local universities, private sector companies and government departments which are helping Qatar achieve its 2030 National Vision. His Royal Highness was joined by Qatar Foundation President Dr Mohammad Fathy Saoud and the Executive Vice President of Research and Development at Qatar Foundation, Dr Thomas Zacharia.
His Royal Highness was shown two technologies being developed by the Qatar team that originated in the Williams Formula One programme but have since been adapted to tackle important issues such as road safety and energy efficiency. His Royal Highness was first shown the cutting edge road safety simulators being developed that use a realistic car chassis and sophisticated artificial intelligence to train local drivers and help reduce road traffic accidents in Qatar. This was followed by a demonstration of Williams Advanced Engineering’s flywheel energy storage technology that reduces green house gas emissions in public transport and renewable energy applications and has the potential to make Qatar’s planned public transport infrastructure one of the most environmentally friendly in the world.
Clarence House spokesperson Paddy Harverson commented: ''The Prince enjoyed his visit to the Williams Technology Centre today and was fascinated to see how the company is applying its cutting edge Formula One technology to help tackle problems in everyday driving. To see a British company succeed overseas is always encouraging."
Speaking about the visit Alex Burns, Chief Executive Officer of Williams, said; ‘’It was an honour to host HRH the Prince of Wales today and show him the technology Williams is developing in Qatar. The presence of such a high profile figure demonstrates the strong ties that exist between our two countries. This visit is also a further endorsement of the growing importance of Williams’ investment and activities in Qatar. The Prince seemed very interested in our technology and educational initiatives and we would like to thank him for his time today.’’
