Jailhouse Rock Cafe Coming To Food Lion Autofair

Fans headed to the April 4-7 Food Lion AutoFair are in for a real treat as Charlotte Motor Speedway and Levy Restaurants have partnered to create the Elvis-themed Jailhouse Rock Café. The café features an eight-item menu highlighted by one of Elvis’ favorites, a grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich, fittingly named The King.

The menu features several foods named after the legendary singer’s top songs and serves as a complement to the Elvis display in the Showcase Pavilion. The display contains Elvis’ 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II and several artifacts from his 1968 movie “Speedway,” parts of which were filmed at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“Each year we challenge ourselves to come up with fun fair foods for our fans,” said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. “We’ve had everything from deep-fried cupcakes to chocolate-covered bacon before, but we knew we needed some real chart-toppers this year as we pay tribute to the King of Rock-n-Roll. The menu at the Jailhouse Rock Café will have every fan carrying a tune to their favorite Elvis song.”

Sure to be another fan favorite on the menu is a dessert called the Graceland Delight. The delicious dessert is a heaping portion of banana pudding topped with whipped cream and bacon crumbles. For fans looking to quench their thirst at the Food Lion AutoFair, there is the Blue Hawaii; blue lemonade served with a slice of pineapple and a cherry.

There is something on the menu for any time of day, from breakfast to dinner, and dessert in between. Below is the full Jailhouse Rock Café menu.

• The King, a grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich.
• Blue Suede Shoe Plate, catfish, corn on the cob, coleslaw and corn bread.
• Hunka Hunka Burger, topped with cheese, chili, slaw, onion.
• Ain’t Nothing but a Chili Dog, hot dog served with chili and cole slaw.
• American Trilogy, fried green tomato, bacon and lettuce served on Texas toast.
• Graceland Delight, banana pudding topped with whipped cream and bacon crumbles.
• Mary in the Morning, southern-style sausage gravy served on a fresh baked biscuit.
• Blue Hawaii, blue lemonade served with a pineapple slice and cherry.

The Jailhouse Rock Café will be located in the infield of Charlotte Motor Speedway across from the media center. Pricing for these special menu items starts at just $3.

In addition to the Jailhouse Rock Café and Elvis display, Charlotte Motor Speedway is also hosting a preliminary round of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest. Held Friday and Saturday of AutoFair, the winner will go on to compete in the semifinals at Graceland, held in August during Elvis Week.

The Food Lion AutoFair annually attracts more than 100,000 visitors, features nearly 50 car club displays and offers a surplus of automotive parts and memorabilia for sale or trade. There’s also a collector car auction conducted by Dealer Auctions Inc. and more than 1,500 collectible vehicles of all makes and models will be available for sale in the car corral that rings the 1.5-mile superspeedway.

Food Lion AutoFair tickets are $10 for adults and free for children 13 and under. Four-day passes are available for $30. AutoFair is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
