As with all of his races, Johansson plans to sport a timepiece of his own design while on the track as a means of testing its accuracy under the most extreme conditions. Testing watches is something ordinarily done in a laboratory. Click here for a video of Stefan Johansson testing his timepiece on the track during practice rounds.
"Until you actually drive a modern racing car it is hard to comprehend how violent the environment inside the car is," explained Johansson when asked about his unconventional method for testing the mechanical movements of his watches. "This is my opinion is a fantastic way to really test the watches ‘real time."
"Sebring is such a great place to start the year," said team owner, Brian Alder. "It's such a demanding race in every aspect. Not only is it 12 hours, it's a test of every component on the car and your program. It requires preparation, determination and a willingness to put it all on the line. It's probably one of the most unforgiving tracks and races in world."
The 61st Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida is set for 10:45 a.m. ET on Saturday, March 16 from Sebring International Raceway. SPEED's live coverage begins at 10:30 a.m. ET.
BAR1 Motorsports is partnered with Evident Capital, MBRP Performance Exhaust, Merchant Services, Ltd., PetroComm, Slacker Inc. and Stefan Johansson Växjö for its second year of full competition in the American Le Mans Series. The team is located in Plain City, Ohio. Team owner, Brian Alder, has been an active and winning crew chief in the American Le Mans Series since its inception.
