Hodge Wins Second Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge Race, Hoy Storms Through The Field

Former Australian top-order test batsman Brad Hodge is one race away from clean-sweeping the Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge after yet another emphatic victory at the 2013 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix today.

Hodge led the entire race, finishing ahead of Underbelly actor Jonathan LaPaglia and chef Shane Delia who had an exciting battle for second and third.

Scottish cyclist Sir Chris Hoy managed to overcome his second-last place finish on Friday, jumping an impressive 15 places to finish fifth. Before the first corner Hoy had already passed four cars and made his way through the field with relative ease over the remaining four laps.

Dominating the women's field yet again, Australia's Olympic golden girl Anna Meares managed to place fourth and is well set for a podium finish in the final race on Sunday. Model Kate Peck also consolidated on her performance yesterday finishing 10th in front of Jessica Gomes.

From the field of 21, four drivers failed to finish after taking some heavy knocks during the race.

Scott McGregor had his front and rear bumpers hanging off after only two laps before running off into the sand soon after.

Actor Jared Daperis, Network Ten news presenter Hamish MacDonald and fashion designer Wayne Cooper followed suit in what was an action-packed five lap race.

The Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge continues tomorrow with the final race of the weekend.

Driver Quotes

What Brad Hodge had to say?

"It felt good leading the pack from start to finish today. I managed to stay out of the way of the carnage which was good - though I probably missed the fun and need to be involved in the pack a bit more! I think tomorrow I'll try and get off the line and control the race again, being in front means you can dictate the race from there and control what you do."

What Sir Chris Hoy had to say?

"I am delighted with today's performance; I wasn't expecting that at all. I was hoping to pick off six or eight drivers but it all happened on the first straight as I got a clean break. After the tussle at the start I managed to get right on the inside and gain a few places. I had a bit of a battle with Lehmo (Anthony Lehmann) and (Mark) Beretta, but that was the most fun I have had in the car ever. It was a real contrast to the disappointing start yesterday. I think a win might be out of reach as Brad has been so consistent, but you never know. Anything can happen."

What Anna Meares had to say?

"I was so stoked with that race, I was fighting hard with Jared (Daperis) there for a while, but I wasn't backing down and had my foot flat. I'm so happy to be in the four, and am hoping to get the inside run tomorrow so I can take a few of these boys out."
