For the second time is as many days, a rider from Colombia won the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race at Daytona International Speedway.

Tomas Puerta led six of 10 laps aboard his RoadRace Factory Racing Yamaha on Saturday to join countryman Stefano Masa as Daytona winners this weekend.

"I was trying to think about being in the lead on the last lap of the chicane," Puerta said. "I changed my mind with two laps to go. On the last lap I just put my head down and didn't care where everyone was at in the draft.

"I saw I had a little bit of a gap going through the horseshoe, and I just kept charging from there."

Puerta made that lead hold up to the finish and increased the gap to a final margin of 1.03 seconds over second-place Charles Weaver and his Napa Auto Yamaha and 1.133 seconds over third-place Cory Alexander and his National Guard Suzuki.

"Everyone on the team is more confident than last year," Puerta said. "I'm hoping we can get a lot of wins this year."

Weaver said his bike was working very well in the draft all race long.

"It was kind of unexpected," Weaver said. "I was OK in warmup, but had a little spill and went into the grass. We gridded 13th and I just kept making my way forward.

"Second-to-last lap I finally caught the lead group and drafted past most of them to get to second."

The race was briefly red-flagged early on when a rider went off the track, which Alexander said worked to his advantage.

"After the second start my bike was running great," Alexander said. "I made my way up from 11th, so I'm really pumped to be on the podium after a rough start to the weekend. I'm really happy."
