2013 Sebring 12: ALMS Race Recap - Risi Competizione Sebring 4 Hour Report

As the clock turned over to mark four hours of running in the 12 Hours of Sebring, at one third distance the No.62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 Italia was in second position in the GT category and chasing hard for the lead.

The car has run without any major problems since the start although the drivers were experiencing some tire performance drop off earlier in the race. A change of Michelin compound has improved this considerably. Both Beretta and Malucelli escaped relatively unscathed from brushes by prototypes, neither of which affected the handling of the Ferrari.

Gimmi Bruni took the start from pole position but elected to play a sensible long game and didn’t over-react when beaten off the line by the No.4 Corvette. Since that time the Risi has led the GT category for 3 laps and never been lower than 6th in class – always in contention and in close contact with the leaders. Bruni, together with Olivier Beretta and Matteo Malucelli, all completed single stints over the first three hours.

The next report will be at two-thirds distance.
