2013 Australia GP: Formula One Race Results - Raikkonen, Lotus Win!
By Mike Sulka
Formula One F1 Kimi Raikkonen and his No. 7 Lotus used a two stop strategy to win the 2013 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia. For Raikkonen, it is his first win of the 2013 Formula One F1 season, and 20th of his career. It is also his second Australian Grand Prix victory, his last coming in 2007 when racing for Ferrari. Raikkonen's last victory was at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2012 - four events ago.
Coming home second was Fernando Alonso and his No. 3 Ferrari seven seconds adrift. Alonso was on a three stop strategy, but was unable to overcome the deficit to Raikkonen. For Alonso, it is his 87th podium of his Formula One F1 career.
In third, Polesitter and three-time world champion Sebastian Vettel had a great start, and led early, but couldn't hold the point with his three-stop strategy. While clearly quicker over a lap - as shown in qualifying - the Red Bull was not the better car over a race distance... today. Overall, Vettel has 47 career podiums.
Interestingly, three of the last four Australian Grand Prix have not been won from Pole.
A rejuvenated Felipe Massa (Ferrari) was fourth and showing a continuance of his late 2012 pace, while Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) finished fifth in his first race for Mercedes.
Behind, Mark Webber (Red Bull) had a dreadful start, and never recovered to finish six ahead of Adrian Sutil (Force India), Paul di Resta (Force India), Jenson Button (McLaren), and Romain Grosjean (Lotus).
Next up for the Formula One F1 series will be the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix in seven days.
