CORE autosport’s No. 05 ORECA FLM09 started from the Prototype Challenge class pole position after Colin Braun set a new Sebring PC qualifying lap record the previous day.
Co-driver Jon Bennett started the car, but quickly ran into trouble when a GT-class Corvette tapped him into a spin, causing Bennett to lose position and damaging the rear bodywork on the car.
Braun and Mark Wilkins did their best to push the car back to the front of the field. Braun set the fastest PC lap of the race while regaining lost laps and Wilkins briefly put the car into the class lead, but as the sun set, the team could not maintain its pace and the No. 05 shuffled down the order.
After 12 hours of circulating the brutal 3.74-mile circuit, CORE autosport crossed the finish line in fifth at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida.
For round two of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón, CORE autosport travels to the streets of Long Beach, Calif., for the Tequila Patrón American Le Mans Series at Long Beach, April 19 – 20. The race will be carried live on ESPN3, April 20, at 7:15 p.m. ET and rebroadcast on ABC, Sunday, April 21, at 1 p.m.
