Track activities were held on the South Yas Marina Circuit and, after finishing the first practice session third fastest, from thereon in Tan had the upper hand on the rest of the field. He topped the table in the remaining two practice sessions before going on to set pole position in qualifying, 0.7 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.
In the races he was simply unbeatable, crossing the line 14 seconds ahead of the rest of the grid in the first race and setting the fastest lap along the way. His performance was even better in race two as he took the chequered flag an incredible 23 seconds ahead of the field, once again also collecting the fastest lap.
This performance comes off the back of his debut in the championship in February, where he scored his first win in the second race of the weekend.
The season finale will take place on 29 March at the Dubai Autodrome, and will take the format of two final races.
Weiron Tan: “It is a huge result for me to come to Abu Dhabi and take two wins when I missed most of the season. I only came into this championship at the last race and I was so happy to get one win there, my first victory in Formula racing. To come into the second weekend and get two race wins, and to have won with such a margin, is an amazing feeling. It was a difficult weekend in terms of the weather as it was so hot, which meant the car didn’t stick too well onto the track and was sliding around, but it was a great learning experience. I feel really confident in the car and have to thank the team who worked hard to run the cars. I’ve learnt a lot and can’t wait to head to Dubai later in the month where my aim is to be consistent and work for two more wins to round off the championship season.”
