Ferris Set For Quick Recovery

Monster Energy Yamaha’s Dean Ferris is hopeful of being able to take to the line for the third round of the FIM Motocross World Championship at Valkenswaard in the Netherlands on Easter Monday. The Australian will today have an operation on a broken right collarbone, sustained in a crash while running in the top five of the opening meeting of the Dutch Motocross Championship at Halle.

Ferris, who is currently third in the FIM MX2 standings with his YZ250F, got cross-rutted approaching a jump and landed heavily. As well as damage to the collarbone the 22 year old also nurses a broken right rib. After a reasonably straightforward medical procedure Ferris then has two weeks to recover before entering the sand of Valkenswaard near Eindhoven.

“Initially it was beneficial for Dean to be at Halle to get some good time in the sand and against a lot of other Grand Prix riders who were also using the meeting for training and preparation for Valkenswaard,” said Team Manager Steve Dixon. “He had a good start and was going for fourth or fifth position when he got out of shape on the jump. Hopefully everything will go OK with the operation and then he just needs some time for the rib to get better. With some RandR and luck we are crossing our fingers that Dean should be back for the next Grand Prix.”

Ferris’ Monster Energy Yamaha team-mate, Mel Pocock, won one of two MX2 motos in a first wet round of the Maxxis British Championship at Doncaster on the same day.
