Wheldon started at the back of the field and weaved his way to the front in Saturday’s race while Eriksen started up front and stayed there Sunday.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Formula Car Challenge, a regionalized series for open-wheel racers. The sophisticated cars are powered by Mazda engines. The series is populated both by drivers hoping to advance in the world of racing and by others who treat it as a destination series. The FCC includes three classes.
Wheldon is the 2012 FormulaSPEED 2.0 champion but is now racing in the Pro Formula Mazda class. Eriksen also races in Pro Formula Mazda.
Mel Kemper Jr., who last raced at Sonoma in 1996, reacquainted himself with the facility quickly and won both ends of the weekend in the Formula Mazda class.
Parker Nicklin was the FS 2.0 winner Saturday and Kyle Kaiser, the 2012 Pro Formula Mazda champion, won Sunday.
Goodyear employs about 69,000 people at manufacturing plants and facilities in 22 nations. Based in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear is among the largest tiremakers in the world and is the worldwide leader in race tire innovation.
