2013 Fontana: JR Motorsports NASCAR Nationwide Race Preview

No. 7 TaxSlayer.com Chevrolet Camaro (Regan Smith)

"One of the great things about the Nationwide Series this year is how deep the field really is. You have 15 to 20 cars week-in and week-out that can go out there and win. You have a lot of guys that are hungry for wins, which equals good racing for the fans.

"For our TaxSlayer team, I’m confident the wins will come. It’s just a matter of time. I feel like we’re just now hitting our stride. We’re clicking and learning new things every race. When we go back to these tracks, we’ll know exactly what to do thanks to that knowledge. I think the further we get into this season, the more dangerous a race team we’re going to be. The points are a big deal to us. We’re thinking about points every lap, every track. We have to. Sam (Hornish) has a bit of a buffer right now, but it’s still early."

No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet Camaro (Brad Sweet)

"Last weekend was a big learning experience for me. My first time at Bristol and it definitely was a challenge, but we have an awesome group with this Great Clips team and I’m really enjoying working with all of them this year.

"Now we’re off to Fontana and it’s going to be a big difference from the bullring at Bristol. I haven’t raced at a ton of tracks in Nationwide, but of the ones I have, Fontana is probably one of my favorites. I think it’s fun because it gives you options. There are multiple grooves, which make it a lot easier to pass.

"We’re changing it up a little bit this weekend and racing a special white Great Clips and EA Sports Chevy to promote the 2013 Ultimate Golf Experience. Fans can enter to win at GreatClips.com. It’s great to have a sponsor like Great Clips that gives back to the fans like this."

GREAT CLIPS/EA SPORTS OFFERING FANS THE ULTIMATE GOLF EXPERIENCE - Sweet’s Great Clips machine will feature a fresh, white paint scheme this weekend at Fontana. The design is in promotion of Great Clips’ partnership with EA Sports and XBOX in the 2013 Ultimate Golf Experience. Fans can enter for a chance to win a trip to the BayHill Invitational Golf Tournament in Orlando, Fla., and meet golf legend Arnold Palmer. Additional prizes include a variety of EA Sports games and XBOX consoles. There are two ways to enter: go to www.GreatClips.com or text BAYHILL to 47328. If that’s not enough, during the month of March, Great Clips salons are giving out $5 off coupons, good towards select EA Sports games. The special coupon code is available on the bottom of each Great Clips receipt.

SMITH RIDING WAVE OF MOMENTUM INTO CALIFORNIA - On the cusp of a pair of top-10s and an average finish of 6.5 over the last two races—a NNS career best for the native of Cato, N.Y.—Smith and the No. 7 TaxSlayer.com team are riding a wave of momentum into Auto Club Speedway. Smith has earned 76 points in that time frame, climbing a single position to fourth in the championship standings.

SWEET RETURNS TO SITE OF CAREER-BEST FINISH - Sweet will not only be racing in his home state of California, but returns to the sight of his career-best finish in the Nationwide Series. The Grass Valley, Calif.-native notched a sixth-place effort in this race last season, marking his series-first top-10. It was the first of two top-10s he earned on the year, with the other coming at Kentucky Speedway.

THE TRUTH IN NUMBERS - Only four races into the 2013 NNS season, Smith’s driver rating of 101.1 ranks him sixth among his peers. Additionally, Smith ranks among the top-four competitors in 10 of 15 loop data categories tracked by NASCAR Statistical Services. The JRM driver either holds the lead or runner-up spot in the following categories: fastest drivers early in a run, fastest drivers on restarts, fastest speed in traffic, laps in the top-15, percentage of laps on the lead lap and speed by quarter.

SMITH AND SWEET TO PARTICIPATE IN NNS AUTOGRAPH SESSION - Fans at the Auto Club Speedway event will have the opportunity to attend an autograph session with both JRM drivers Regan Smith and Brad Sweet on Friday, March 22 from 4:30 —5:15 p.m. PT. The two will join a host of other NNS drivers for a series-wide autograph session located at the south entrance to the NNS garage.
