Montmelo Testing - Day 1 ISR Keeps Improving With Sirotkin, Zanella
At the third collective test of the Formula Renault 3.5 preseason at Montmelò teams and drivers were finally welcomed on-track by warm and sunny weather in Catalunya. For the first time from the start of 2013, ISR Racing lined-up the two drivers that will form the team's roster for the upcoming season as the already-confirmed Sergey Sirotkin was paired by new hire Christopher Zanella. The two sessions were completed with no issues on both cars, and the team's rookie duo logged a great deal of laps in order to gain the needed confidence with a new car and environment.

Sirotkin completed 62 laps while Zanella covered four more, with the young Russian ending up into the top-10 in both segments. In the AM session Sirotkin ended up not far off the lead with a best time of 1'29"997, while he was 9th in the afternoon and improved his mark to 1'29"703. Zanella got his first taste of a completely new car for him and used a progressive approach throughout the day. In the AM session he lapped in 1'31"029 before lowering his best laptime to 1'30"416 in the afternoon. Testing will resume tomorrow for the final open day before the season kicks-off at Monza.
Sergey Sirotkin: "It's been a positive day of testing as we finally found some dry weather. We've been pretty fast, as clearly demonstrated by the 9th place we scored in 1'29"703, just 0.8s off the lead. We made some steps forward compared to Le Castellet and all the drivers are very close in terms of performance. We tried different set-up solutions - some of them will be retained for tomorrow, other will be abandoned. I'm convinced that we'll be aiming at repeating or even improving today's results".
Christopher Zanella: "I was finally able to complete a full day of testing with the Formula Renault 3.5 after my previous commitment were canceled by snow at Monza and Alcaniz. I drove for ISR Racing for the first time and discovered a very welcoming and familiar environment - I look forward to enjoy a full season with them. It was the first time trying pit-stops for me and the experience has been really valuable. Regarding the test, I'm satisfied with how things went, despite a slight mistake while on new tires. I still have to lear now to handle them at their best".
