Press Release ISR, Test Renault 3.5 - Sirotkin Tops Rookie Ranks As Zanella Impresses
As the preseason for the 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 championship was rounded out today at Montmelò, rookie Sergey Sirotkin continued to show great signs of growth. The Russian racer, fielded by Igor Salaquarda's ISR Racing, continued in his learning experience and after having entered testing at Motorland Aragón in Alcaniz and Le Castellet, he ended up as the fastest rookie of the closing session at Circuit de Catalunya in Montmelò. Perfectly assisted by the ISR Racing technical staff, Sirotkin continued in his steady progress as he ended up in 6th place with a personal best laptime of 1'30"199.

Christopher Zanella, the newest hire of the Czech-based squad, increased his confidence with a racecar he drove for the first time yesterday. The Swiss driver worked in perfect harmony with the ISR staff as he continued to learn the secrets of his new technical package. At the end of the day, he scored 17th place with a personal best lap of 1'30"993. After an early rainfall made the track damp and tricky for everyone, he had captured a very positive 9th place in the morning, lapping in 1'31"275.
I SR Racing has now started preparations for the first round of the season, set for April 4th to 7th at Monza. The Italian racetrack will also host an additional test session on Thursday in order to recover the time lost at Alcaniz due to snow.
Sergey Sirotkin: "We experienced a good start this morning despite an overnight rainfall made the track damp. We were able to turn several laps and improved some of the technical choices we started testing yesterday. I think the results were pretty positive although the wind conditioned my performance. Having head or tailwinds can make quite a difference when you go for a quick lap with two long straights like in Montmelò. On the other hand, I'm satisfied with the great chemistry with the whole team".
Christopher Zanella: "I continued to follow my learning path with the Dallara-Renault I was driving it for the first time here in Spain, and I improved my laptimes progressively. I see this as the most important achievement. In the morning segment I ended up in 9th and that's encouraging, but we shouldn't be too confident about the amount of work we still have to complete. I will be in much better physical shape for the first race of the season at Monza and I'm sure we'll be able to aim at the top half of the charts".
