Draco Racing Test Renault 3.5 - Bad Luck Doesn’t Stop Muller And Negrao

Draco Racing faced tough times in day two of the last collective test of the World Series by Renault preseason at Montmelò. The Italian-based team faced some unexpected troubles that prevented their drivers from cruising to the top of the charts. Nonetheless, Nico Müller ended up the in fifth place with a best lap of 1'30"048 while André Negrão clocked the 11th fastest lap of the day in 1'30"468.

The Swiss-based racer went off-track during the morning session and had to sit out for repairs while the Brazilian was forced to switch engines as his unit had reached its designated mileage. The engine was replaced in less than two hours by the Draco staff with the team impressing for timing and synergy. Today's program also featured tests aimed at setting up for the first round of the season at Monza, which is scheduled for the April 7 weekend. On his run on new tires Müller scored 5th but was suddenly stopped by a gearbox issue, losing the chance for a further improvement.

Nico Müller: "Today it's been tough. This morning we hit the track in damp conditions to evaluate the car's handling on the wet and we gathered some good results. Unfortunately, I also had a crash as I was caught out by the wet in turn 4, so in the afternoon we had to recover the time lost in the incident. In the final segment we had good potential and we could have aimed even higher than 5th place, but I was stopped by a gearbox failure".

André Negrão: "This morning we did some live pit-stop and standing start practice in order to line-up fully-prepared at Monza. Unfortunately, I experienced a big engine problem that cost me much part of the time available. We tried to catch up with the program, but despite the great effort by the team I could only complete just 28 laps. On the other hand, I'm confident because despite all the issues this morning we ended up in 12th so we have great room for improvement".
