Shoe's News: Gray, Brown Win At Gators To Give DSR Wins 199, 200 On A Very Special Day

Zach Veach, No. 12 K12

Veach started the 2013 season off on the right foot by finishing in the top-three fastest during this morning's practice session. Hoping consistency is the key for success, Veach knows his car is fast enough to get him across the finish line first.

"Practice is the time to really show up, and I think that we have a really good car here. In the first session we were P3. I think that we found a lot of solid speed for the amount of miles that we put in today. We have worked on a really great race setup, and we will really show our hand in qualifying tomorrow. This could be a really good weekend for us, as long as we stay smart and finish every lap of the race and stay consistent the rest of the season. Thank you K12 and everyone for their support this weekend."

Carlos Muñoz, No. 26 Dialy-Ser

Munoz had a great start today by finishing second fastest in his first practice session. The Columbian native looks to use the speed he found in the car today and make a strong attempt for the pole during tomorrows qualifying.

"I had a really good two first practice sessions. I think that we have a really good set up that we can use to qualify for the pole position. We know we have a fast car, and did a lot of work on the car today to get ready for our race tomorrow. Compared to the others, we are going to try another strategy for qualifying. It will be important because we will see where we are compared to the rest of the field."

Shelby Blackstock, No. 28 Starstruck

Keeping it consistent, Blackstock had two solid practices ahead of the two races on the streets of St. Petersburg.

"It was definitely a good way to start the season as one, two with my teammate Matt. This morning was a good practice overall and the second session went ok, but there is still some room to improve. The track is rubbered in a lot. The only problem was the rain halfway through the session unfortunately, but it happens. I cant wait for qualifying tomorrow, we have a good car to get a good position to start the race and hopefully we'll have a good qualifying position."

Matthew Brabham, No. 83

Brabham led both practice sessions on the streets of St. Petersburg to continue his quest for the Championship lead.

"This morning's session went according to plan; it's always good to start straight out of the box with P1 and P2 for the team. It's great to have a good car right out of the box because it helps throughout the whole weekend. We won't need to do too much work to the car. All we need to do is just build through the session and just adjust to the track as it changes. It was a perfect start, and the second session was great, really productive. We were really fast out of the box which really helps going into a weekend when you do get a lot of practice sessions. We're in a good position for qualifying, so we are confident that we can go out tomorrow and try to fight for the pole, fight for the race win and fight for the Championship lead. The team and crew has been doing a great job at preparing the car in between the last race and St. Petersburg, so we're looking forward to securing a good qualifying position tomorrow."

Garett Grist, No. 7 DaVinci Foods
The Grand Prix of St. Petersburg will be Grist's first street course in a car. He last competed on a temporary street circuit in his karting days.

"Both practice sessions today went well. This morning was my first time on a street track in a car, so I was basically learning the track, seeing how the car works. The team has a great setup from the last few years that they have run here so the car is fine, the times are just from me taking it easy at the moment."

Austin Cindric, No. 77 Nightrain
With two solid practices under Cindric's belt on the stre ets of downtown St. Pete, the eight grader is looking forward to his first Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

"Practice went okay. The track was pretty dirty so we were the street sweepers for all the other sessions this morning. The Nighttrain car had a solid final session, and the field is really tight. I feel like we got some good laps in the end of the second practice session that will help us go into the rest of the weekend."
