Albatec Racing Peugeot 208 Shines On RallycrossRX Debut

Albatec Racing got off to a great start in the first round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill today, notching up second and third place finishes in the first of two heats at the Kent track. In the hands of Scottish racer Andy Scott, the Albatec Peugeot 208 was on fine form on its maiden outing, consistently matching the pace of many of the more established opposition, as the fledgling team bids for maiden RallycrossRX glory.

The stunning new 600bhp, two-litre 16-valve Albatec Peugeot 208 certainly caused a stir at the home of British Rallycross, attracting attention from an enthusiastic loyal crowd who braved the icy conditions to watch the cream of European racers do battle. Lining up alongside local favourite Liam Doran for the first of two four-lap heats, Scott was quickly onto his rivals’ rear bumper heading into turn one, and over the course of the race, was easily able to hold off any challenge for second, finishing just adrift of the eventual winner at the flag.

In heat two, Scott was generally happy with the overall pace of his Total-backed car, however he was unable to make inroads into the two-car battle ahead, finishing third at the finish. With an impressive track record at Lydden Hill, including triple heat wins here last Easter, the Dumfries Scotsman will bid for success in the remaining two heats tomorrow morning, staged ahead of two six-lap semi finals and the all-important final, in the new IMG-run series.

Tomorrow’s RallycrossRX track action kicks off with warm-up at 09.00, prior to the first of two sets of heats, starting from 10.15, with two semi finals and the main six-lap race starting at 15.00. (All timings are provisional and subject to change.)

Tickets for the opening round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship are available via the Lydden Hill Ticket Office at 0871 230 5589 or visit http://www.lyddenhill.co.uk.

Albatec Racing Team Principal and Driver, Andy Scott #26:

It’s been a very satisfying debut appearance for Albatec Racing, and I’m delighted with how well the team has come together for the opening round of RallycrossRX. We have had a lot of interest from the media and the public, and I’m extremely happy with the performance of the car so far this weekend.

“Naturally it would have been nice to take a win today; however there is no question that the Albatec Peugeot 208 has huge potential. I’m optimistic that if I can get a better start in tomorrow’s races, we can get some more strong results, but overall I’m very pleased with our progress.”

Marc Laboulle, Albatec Racing Team Manager:

“It has been a real baptism of fire this weekend, as I suspected, but I am very happy with the new team’s performance and that of the Albatec Peugeot 208. I think we can see the areas we need to work on for tomorrow, but I am very confident that we can sort those out in warm-up.

“So with a few minor changes, I am optimistic that we can continue to move forwards and get some even better results tomorrow. Overall I am delighted to come away from the first day, our first time racing with the car, with two strong finishes to our name.”
