“Tourists and race fans visiting our area have always stopped by the track and wanted to see this historical facility,” said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup. “As part of our Fans R1st initiative we established a free viewing area so they can get a taste of the excitement that is The Glen.”

Opening Weekend (April 20-21) continues to be the start of the 2013 season at Watkins Glen International, but everything really begins with ChumpCar World Series, April 12-14. This series features vehicles originally valued at $500, brought up to the safety standards dictated by ChumpCar World Series, taking to The Glen for two races from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The ChumpCar World Series adds Watkins Glen International to a list of esteemed venues it has competed at in just its fourth season. More information on ChumpCar World Series is available at the official website: www.ChumpCar.com.

Watkins Glen International is active nearly every day of the week with a variety of car clubs and amateur racing associations and The Glen is thrilled to welcome fans to the Fans R1st Viewing Area this year. Fans may enter through Gate 2, the primary entry point for all Watkins Glen International visitors. A complete schedule of track activity is available at www.TheGlen.com under “Tickets & Events.”

Particular track rental events of note that are free to watch include:
April 12-14 ChumpCar
May 17-19 North American Road Racing Association (NARRA)
May 25-26 Sports Car Club of America (SCCA)
May 31-June 2 Porsche Clash
June 7-9 Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA)

The Fans R1st Viewing Area is in addition to daily Thunder Road Tours at Noon and 5 p.m. Guests who take part in watching on-track action are welcome to see the course from behind the wheel of their vehicle by purchasing a Thunder Road Tour.

Located in the Finger Lake Region of New York, Watkins Glen International is the premier road racing facility in the United States. Tickets for all 2013 events at The Glen are available now by calling 866.461.RACE. Fans who purchase tickets during the advance sales period have the chance to save over those who purchase during event time. Gift certificates, licensed merchandise, Thunder Road Tours and tickets are available for purchase at The Shop, located in downtown Watkins Glen at 2 North Franklin Street and online at www.TheGlen.com. The Shop is open Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
