Disappointment Forteam Go&Fun Gresini Moto3 In Qatar

Unfortunately the opening race of the season last just a couple of minutes for Niccolò Antonelli, who crashed in Qatar after contact with Nicklas Ajo. His team-mate Lorenzo Baldassarri struggled to make an impression on his full Moto3 World Championship debut and will look to improve his confidence and feel for the bike in the next race.

Niccolò Antonelli (DNF) “There is not much I can say other than that I am bitterly disappointed. We got a good start and I was feeling confident in the bike. I made up four or five positions and was in a fast group but Ajo pushed me wide and I lost the front. This is not the first time it's happened. ”

Lorenzo Baldassarri (28th) “That was a bad race and I am not happy with how my debut has gone here. Winter testing didn't go too bad and I was expecting more from my first race but we have struggled all weekend to get a feel for the bike and it has been difficult for me. Now I want to look forwards and try to make up for this in the next race."

Fausto Gresini “We can't be anything but disappointed tonight. Niccolò got a really good start and was making up positions when he touched with Ajo and came off worse. It's a shame because otherwise he would have surely had a good race. We have to be positive and look ahead to the next race in the USA because this is only the first round and we have plenty of time to make up the lost points. Lorenzo has had a tough weekend but he can learn from the experience and has the courage and determination to improve.”

TEAM GRESINI AT LOSAIL

Team Gresini features heavily in the early history of the Grand Prix of Qatar. The impressive Losail circuit, built on the outskirts of the capital city of Doha, saw team-mates Sete Gibernau and Colin Edwards take a famous one-two in the year of its inauguration (2004) whilst the following year Marco Melandri took second place after a close fight with Valentino Rossi. Toni Elias qualified on pole position in Moto2 for the night race in 2010 whilst in 2011 Marco Simoncelli battled with the very best in MotoGP before finishing fifth.

TRAVEL NOTES

Doha, the capital of Qatar, is located around 30km from Losail. Located on the coast of the Persian Gulf, it is Qatar's largest city, with over 60% of the nation's population residing in Doha or its surrounding suburbs, and is also the economic centre of the country. Doha also serves as the seat of government of Qatar, which is ruled by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Doha is home to the Education City, an area devoted to research and education. Doha was the site of the first ministerial-level meeting of the Doha Development Round of World Trade Organization negotiations. The city of Doha held the 2006 Asian Games, which was the largest Asian Games ever held. Doha also hosted the 2011 Pan Arab Games and most of the games at the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. Doha will also host a large number of the venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. ( TIME ZONE +3 GMT WEATHER (21°C / 28° C, 70° F / 82° F)
