Will Freddy Pett Continue His Winning Streak At Thruxton?

Freddy Pett dominated the Triumph Triple Challenge (TTC) at Brands Hatch last weekend, but we all know Thruxton is a completely different circuit. Recognised for being one of the fastest circuits in the TTC calendar, could it bring out a new winner?

The first round of the TTC season went off with a bang as Freddy Pett stormed ahead in both races. He finished Race 1 almost five seconds clear of the pack and Race 2 ten seconds ahead!

So far, there have been the same three faces on the podium; Pett, Chrissy Rouse and Phillip Atkinson. Rouse and Atkinson are currently joint second in the championship, both with 36 points. Both will now be aiming to close the gap on Pett and score the most points this weekend.

Charlie King and Dan Fuller, both in the Cup class, have also shone through and have secured a spot on the podium in every race so far. They are currently tied on points at the top of the Cup championship and will also be looking to out-do each other this weekend.

For Sam Cox, who is tied third in the Cup class with Gavin Little, Thruxton is a favourite. Last year he finished third at the track so could be one to watch out for this weekend.

We caught up with championship leader Pett to find out how he is feeling about this weekend:

“I’ve only ridden at Thruxton once before and that was last year in the Superstock 1000s. The place is stupidly fast, and it’s not my favourite of circuits as it’s a bit too flat and open for my liking. Still, I’m really looking forward to going round there on a 600, I’ll be keeping the bike pinned and trying my hardest to tuck myself and make myself as small as possible - which isn’t going to be easy being my size!

“I’m going to have to try and take advantage of late braking and attack the two chicanes on the circuit in order to make up the time I’m likely to loose on the fast straights compared to the smaller guys.

“Fingers crossed we’ll have some good racing, hopefully it wont be too close racing though - a repeat of the result at Brands would be nice.”

The TTC will be on track at 17.00 on Saturday and 17.05 on Sunday.
